Small sample size, but it looks like maybe you can't be in combat in order to use the item that lets you acquire the items for this quest.

Additionally, you CAN kill the same rare more than once per day, though it won't show up on your map as a rare or award rare loot (other than the quest item).

Extremely important to know: DO NOT press ESC or use any /stopcasting macro while you have the buff, it will get removed and you will not get the quest item! Just tested it while farming some rares.

Just found out that the last boss from Superbloom does give the item for this quest! I can post an image if needed.

This quest was enough of a pain in the butt that I initially thought it was bugged, since the tethercoil debuff randomly drops off and cannot be reapplied while you are in combat. (The rare is allowed to be in combat with someone else.)

I'm now able to solo some of the rares without losing the tether by sticking to a few rules:
- no movement abilities like charge, shield charge, leap, or anything that affects movement speed or could negate the reduced movement speed from the debuff (e.g. freedom, deaths advance)
- no channelled abilities, including non-instant cast trinkets
- no macros that can affect channelling (and do not press esc)
- do not get stunned
- ideally, avoid the rares that throw you around as this sometimes drops the tether.

Confirmed that rares can be repeated on the same day for the quest item, even when not showing the silver dragon motif.

The absolute best way to farm these is by doing the the Frenzy thing in the Emerald Dream.
Kill a bunch of neutral mobs, Surging Lasher spawns, tag and kill him, repeat.
Could be done in less than an hour!

Useful bit of info, you can get additional even if you've already killed the rare. Keep doing laps rekilling them till it's done.

Is this buggy right now? I made sure that the debuff stays on the rare mob when it dies but i do not receive the taut tethercoil. I tried several things: only autohitting, not being in a group, using item directly from bag. Normal rares, event rares. Relogging, abandon and accepting quest again... nothing works

As others has already pointed out, the best way to farm these are the Lashers from the ^&*!zy World event.
But while you wait on that event, you may as well check all the rares as they give Taut Tetherecoils too. So here's the list with coordinates.

From what I have experienced the end boss for the Superbloom has a higher and more reliable drop rate than the rares.

I drop combat by running out of the Superboom area 30 secs before the time run out and then back in to channel on the boss before joining the fight.

Given you will need to do a bunch of Superbloom anyways for Handling it: Shadowed Dreamleaf - I suggest doing this before farming rares more generally (if required).

How to farm this:
- Go to *!@#*zy event
- Kill adds but DON'T LOOT. If you loot enough it'll auto complete and end the event.
- Rare Surging Lasher will spawn. Tag (tether, syphon) it, then kill, get coils automatically, again don't loot.
- Rinse and repeat.

You can get at least 4-5 rares in a short period if your group kill fast enough adds.

Can be done in raid.

Realm hop to another server to find %^&**zy event.

Tips if you don't want to just mindlessly farm Frenzies

1. Do this step along Superbloom one - the end boss of Superbloom counts. In the second to last stage of Superbloom just drop combat, mount, fly up so you won't get in combat again and wait till boss spawns - use the item on boss, kill the boss. Item can be used from mounts as long as you are in range.

2. Go kill rares in Warmode - I was doing it this week, there wasn't much people in WM, none of them were killing rares, 3 laps around Emerald Dream and the quest was done.

Description

I've read of a root in the Emerald Dream known for its defensive qualities. It binds its tendrils to powerful foes as a way to protect surrounding flora and fauna. A friendly scribe might be able to help you adapt its properties. If I could just get my hands on some of that root, I'm sure I could dissect its properties and mold it into something capable of harnessing Fyr'alath's power. Here are my notes. You should be able to find powerful creatures guarding patches of wild tethercoil. Good hunting.
